Lab Analysis

Evolution is the theory scientists use to explain adaptation in organisms. In this lab, we used fish to see the offspring of the twelve fish in four generations. In the first generation, the offspring included seven green, two red, two yellow, and one orange colored fish. It had more green because it is dominant two all other colors including red and yellow which make orange because they are incomplete dominants. In the second generation, four yellow fish were taken to the morgue because they couldn’t camouflage well, so, there were five green, two red, zero yellow, and three orange fish. In the third generation there was six green, two red, one yellow, and one orange fish. In the fourth generation, there was an environmental disaster so all green fish were taken to the morgue. As a result, zero green, three red, zero yellow, and one orange fish survived. The population has changed since the first generation drastically because green fish have been totally wiped out and yellow fish are rare. These fish were both heterozygous (different genotypes) and homozygous (same genotypes).
There are many reasons why some fish survived and some ended up in the morgue. First of all, green is dominant (G), red is recessive (r), and yellow is recessive (y) so automatically green has I higher chance of surviving. Orange on the other hand is an outcome of red and yellow (ry), incomplete dominants. Yellow fish had to go to the morgue first because yellow fish can’t camouflage in the green water. Which means the green fish thrive in this water. Yet, all of a sudden, an environmental disaster occurred when a factory waste that kills algae and anything green in the water gets dumped in the water. The yellow, red, and orange fish camouflage easily but the green is seen. Therefore all green fish get wiped out. In the end, only 3 fish are left (red and orange), only leaving the good alleles that will survive in the water. This is how evolution works.
